The Story Behind
Walt Whitman wrote, "do you see no further than this façade, this smooth and tolerant manner of me?"
I've always been a good little actress, trained to play a nice girl, getting on people's good side in a second, knowing perfectly what personality to show. That was my survival instinct. That was the lie I weaved for myself, a bubble of fantasyland that was never real.
Most of my recent works are about transcendence, waking up from an illusion, and finally, start living.
Oh yes, it's scary. I'm almost 30 and I have no idea where my life is going. I finished this painting during a complete meltdown.
And I have never been so certain: as long as I can paint, as long as I don't forget what I have learned about myself, I should be okay.
So out into the storm, let's go. Superficial content is a poison, a curse. Real life is harsh, but it's got undiscovered beauty along the way too.
